2MJ is a four piece contemporary Christian band dedicated to sharing the love and hope of Jesus Christ through live music. Since redirecting our lives God has provided us countless avenues for ministry. We've played venues as small as fellowship halls and as large as the Pavillion at Boise State University. We've been pleased to discover that our music bridges the boundaries between denominations, young and old, contemporary and traditional. All the roads we've travelled, individually and collectively, have brought us to this point. We feel it is our mission to share this testimony and this message of hope whenever we can. Music is the vehicle He has given us. However, this vehicle has been on quite an incredible journey en route to where we are today.
Romans 11:33 - Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and inscrutable are his ways!
The Lord works in mysterious ways.
That old adage definitely applies here.
It was inconceivable when we met and began playing music together over thirteen years ago that God had such an incredible plan for us. Though we came from diverse backgrounds, we all shared a love for performing, and the desire to play in a really good band. Our first rehearsals were less than stellar, but eventually things began to click. Thus, the first incarnation of 2MJ was born. However, at that time, we had a different name and a different purpose. We were playing nightclubs all along the mid-Atlantic from Maryland to South Carolina mixing country, rock, and funk. Over the next several years we did a lot of travelling, performed for a lot of people, and experienced considerable growth musically. We shared the stage with acts such as Keith Urban, Toby Keith, Charlie Daniels, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Restless Heart.
Spiritually? Well, we didn't think much about nonworldly things. However, during this time of spiritual indifference and disaffection, God had already begun preparing us for the work ahead. Although, that didn't seem likely when, after five years and hundreds of shows together, we decided to call it quits. And even though we called it a "break" , we knew that our days of playing music together were probably over. We parted amicably and began new lives.
Romans 8:28 - And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
Acts 1:7 - He said to them, "It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has fixed by His own authority".
Our contact was very limited over the next several years until a personal tragedy brought three of the four former bandmates together again. As we talked we discovered that something truely remarkable had been happening in our lives. In our time apart we had each dedicated our lives to God, and we now desired to use our musical talent to serve Him. Was it possible that everything we had been through in the past was simply preparation for this very thing? We decided once again to join forces, but with a new purpose. The work that He had begun many years prior had come to fruition. Chapter two of an incredible story was about to be written, and a unique, powerful ministry was forged.
